Why Visit a Therapist?
Often, everyday stressors become overwhelming and begin to take their toll on otherwise healthy, capable individuals. We tend to take on too many tasks that leave us feeling overwhelmed and underappreciated.
A therapist's role is to help the client take a look at unhealthy lifestyle choices, and to explore and develop tools that will lead to a better overall sense of well-being. Beyond this however, clients who choose to visit a therapist with a specific stressor will find that the knowledge and education that an expert can provide leads to a better understanding and ultimate resolution of their concern. And, if nothing else, therapists provide an unbiased ear for which to share concerns and worries that the client may not feel comfortable sharing with those closest to them.
What Can I Expect on my First Visit?
Your first visit consists of the initial evaluation and treatment planning stages. Both you and the therapist will want to make sure that you are a good "match" and that you will feel comfortable sharing with this person. Think of this as the "getting to know you" stage of this very important relationship. Come in with an idea of what you want to accomplish in treatment, and both you and your therapist can decide where to go from there. Most sessions are scheduled in 55 minute increments.
Can I Make an Appointment for Someone Else?
Therapy is such a personal and specific treatment option that it would be more beneficial for the client if they were the only person to call and make an appointment.
